Number of employed people by industrial sector and residential status. The categories of residential status under the Control of Housing and Work (Jersey) Law 2012 (CHWL) are:

  • 'entitled' and 'entitled to work' (both formerly 'locally qualified')

    • 'entitled' covers people who have lived in Jersey for ten years

    • 'entitled to work' covers people who have lived in Jersey for five years, or are married to someone who is 'entitled', 'licensed', or 'entitled for work

  • 'licensed' (formerly 'j-category') covers 'essential employees'

  • 'registered' (formerly 'non-qualified') covers employees not covered by 'entitled', 'entitled to work', and 'licensed' status

  • 'exempt' status covers staff who have registered residential status but their employer is exempt from counting them as such for business licencing purposes

Further details on residential statuses are available on gov.je and in the CHWL where they are defined.

Undertakings are classified using the UK Standard Industrial Classification 2007 system.
