Monthly Registered Actively Seeking Work ...

Dataset continued from historical dataset administered by Statistics Jersey and now maintained by Employment, Social Security and Housing (ESSH), from quarter 4 2024 onwards. At this point, the seasonally adjusted figure was dropped from the dataset.

Original dataset previously maintained by Statistics Jersey

Monthly data on numbers of people registered as actively seeking work (ASW) in Jersey.

It is important to note that unemployed Jersey residents are not required to register as ASW. There are however certain requirements for those in receipt of an income support claim. Changes to the income support criteria, as well as administrative decisions within Employment, Social Security and Housing, can have an impact on the total numbers registered as ASW. On a more historical basis, the introduction of Income Support in 2008 led to the inclusion of a greater number of individuals in the registered figures.

The numbers shown therefore constitute an informative set of indicators demonstrating the level of individuals registered as actively seeking work in the Island at a given point in time.

Please note that all figures are rounded independently to the nearest 10.

09/10/2026 Data Revision: During production of statistics for Q3 2026, it was identified that a cap intended to exclude those above pensionable age was actually excluding anyone aged 65 or over and registered as Actively Seeking Work from the reported numbers. This incorrectly excluded some individuals who are aged 65 but whose pensionable age is greater than 65 (65 and 2 months, 65 and 4 months etc. up to 67). As the pension age increase is incremental and dependent on date of birth the size of this group has grown slowly, and by September 2026 only amounts to a 2% increase in the total registered as ASW (approximately 10-20 people). Although this issue pre-dates the change in responsibility, the totals have only been revised back to the October 2024 breakpoint where ESSH became responsible for reporting.
